SlingBox

The new kid on the block. The great innovation. Competitor to Apple iPod and Wii. A number of descriptions are being provided by trade gurus to this new product. It is called The Slingbox. What does it do? Why is it billed as a next big thing? What is the technology behind it. Well all these in a short while.

First a little understanding of technology. The technology in use here is the copy right product called SlingStream™. The basic function is to gather content from your television and stream, or rather sling it to you on a device of your choice anywhere in the world. Yes, you got that right, anywhere in the world, on a device of your choice. The input is taken from the input end of the Slingshot device, called Slingbox, content is adjusted to bandwidth requirements. video bit rate and frame rate etc. This is called optimization of the content. After it has been optimized, the content is streamed to SlingStream™ by the Slingbox. The Slingbox also determines the type of device you are using, a laptop, a desktop or a Mobile Phone. SlingStream™ automatically configures the content streamed by Slingbox and bingo! you have it on your device of choice. Really cute. You do not have to miss out your favorite TV shows or games anymore while on the move. Slingshot will provide it to you.
